The Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort is an American-style golf course located in a gorgeous estate. It’s the last great course designed by the late, Robert Trent Jones Snr. A wonderful test, Adare has hosted several Irish Opens as well as the famous JP McManus Pro-Am Classic that attracts the likes of Tiger Woods and Ernie Els every five years. The architect described Adare’s 18th as “the best finishing par-five in golf”.

The sight of the splendid gothic manor house, which overlooks the finishing stretch, is alone worth the green fee. Built in 1832, the manor is the youngest of Adare’s many historic buildings. The ruins of the 13th-century Desmond Castle (1227) still stand on the riverbank that runs through the golf course and are visible from the 15th tee. Straight opposite on the other side of the road is the Black Abbey, built in 1315, while a 15th-century Franciscan friary is a hazard right in the middle of the privately-owned and confusingly named Adare Manor Golf Course behind the 14th green on the ‘resort course’.
