Visit Lauro

Lauro Golf is a 27-hole complex in a beautiful, natural inland setting 1,000 feet up in the foothills behind Mijas where existing flora was augmented by the planting of thousands of young trees indigenous to the region. With 14 lakes also attracting wildlife, not to mention stray golf balls, you feel close to nature as you play your round. You can sometimes spot eagles soaring on the thermals high overhead. The original 18 holes were designed by Italian architect Folco Nardi, with an extra nine holes added by Mariano Benitez. A technical challenge yet not overly demanding, the course is mostly laid out on flat terrain, although two holes traverse the side of a mountain.

These are just a few of the great courses you can enjoy in a region that is often derided for its popularity, yet offers a huge variety of golf and continues to reinvent itself. Next time someone tells you the Costa del Sol is old hat, you can tell them where to go…
