The slopes of Pléneuf-Val André, 6,028 yards of splendid coastal links. Although the first nine holes take you inland, the suspense of the coastal stretch, so tantalisingly glimpsed from the clubhouse window on arrival, is introduced in full when you step onto the 10th tee.
Situated just yards from the clubhouse, this 311-yard hole is all downhill and will require a close study of the course planner. After a blind tee shot, you will be left with a short chip shot – if you have not been distracted by the sea views and planted your drive over the adjoining cliff top.
Next comes one of the most photographed holes in Brittany. The relatively short 515-yard par-five 11th has a tee that proudly sits on the cliff edge, some 200 feet above the fairway. After a climb to the 12th, the course levels out into a short stretch of three holes nestled in woodland before you wind your way back to the clubhouse.
The drive along the Emerald Coast from Dinard to Val André is simply staggering, with its rocky shoreline and deserted beaches.
A stop at Cap Frehel is certainly recommended here. The views from the headland are stunning and another step back in time is in evidence, with the remains of German fortifications from the Second World War dotted along the numerous vantage points.
