Standing on the western slopes of Dartmoor in an area of tremendous natural beauty is the delightful market town of Tavistock. This classic West Country town boasts a wide range of independent shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as several local hostelries. On the edge of the town and stretching into the moorland is Tavistock Golf Club.
Founded in 1890, Tavistock Golf Club is one of the finest courses in the West of England and is one of the most scenic courses in the region.
The course, with its wide inviting fairways, looks deceptively simple, but gorse, bracken, cunningly-sited bunkers, plus the odd clump of scrubby trees, can make life very difficult for the unwary golfer. There are also strong par-fours on the second, sixth, eighth, 11th and 16th. The thin soil makes for tight lies and fast greens while draining quickly and allowing year-long play. No temporary greens or tees at Tavistock!
