Naples Grande was designed by Rees Jones and was my favourite course on the trip. With a slightly more generous and forgiving layout from the tees, it is a course where everything is clearly set out in front of you. Good tee shots are always rewarded, but the large and steeply-sloped, baize-like greens are what you expect from the man who is used by the USGA, to toughen-up famous American tracks for the special demands of hosting a US Open – and you are guaranteed to enjoy your round at the Grande, whatever your handicap.
